2023 Get a Grip of the Grind Festival

Fri 24th to Sun 26th February, Bright, Victoria, Australia

Early bird tickets on sale NOW

Ladies, are you stuck in the daily grind and in desperate need of a reset?

Know an awesome woman who could do with some time out in this space?

A big shout out to all women (inclusively) going over and above, and turning themselves inside out for the people and work they love!

More than ever we need to hit the pause button and take time out from the grind to reconnect, reflect and have some fun.

The GAGOTG festival is designed exactly for this purpose. A welcoming, unpretentious and supportive space to stop, take stock and find your courage with some new, (safely) out-of-your-comfort zone adventures.

Come along as a group or fly solo and find your tribe... (yep, we can cater for work or community team building/bespoke activities if you arrange to come along together.  Just flick us an email).  The festival is now in its fifth year and we have an ever-increasing number of girls weekend away-ers who've made it a yearly thing!

The Get a Grip of the Grind festival is an immersion weekend designed to give like-minded women the opportunity to take time out from usual life, reconnect with themselves, others and their aspirations through shared knowledge, workshops, nature-based and adventure activities.

The festival is run by volunteers at cost price, with a pay it forward attitude. Tickets are great value as a result and provide a ‘come and try’ opportunity for outdoor and adventure activities that are typically equipment or cost prohibitive for beginners.

The festival was purpose-built to empower women to live their best life. The festival model is informed by evidence-based research across performance coaching, psychology, nature, adventure, and immersion-based interventions.

The festival has grown rapidly in response to demand and word of mouth recommendation. The festival has been so impactful for past attendees that the Universities of Melbourne and Newcastle have been working hard to capture its capacity for and mechanisms of change through research.

The festival was founded and continues to be supported by a dedicated team of women who believe in the importance of creating safe spaces for women to create fulfilling lives. Check out the website for a full overview of the founding and ambassador crew as well as our 2023 speakers and activities.

Please pay it forward and share this information to all of the women in your circle who you know deserve it!

P.S. We have a attached a flyer too.  Please feel free to print and display, whilst being mindful of the environment of course.  :)

Post Tramatic Stress Disorder Research

Veterans and kids they care for... understanding challenges and creating hope...

Are you a transitioned (i.e. no longer in the Forces) Australian Defence Force Veteran parent or carer, or, a Veteran's co-parent or co-carer, raising kids aged 3 to 12 years?

Please help us to learn more about how to support you to support your kids. This online research survey asks questions about your mental health and experiences, your thoughts about a child in your care, and what it's like to be in a relationship with them.

Grab a cuppa and pull up a comfy seat. It will take about half an hour. Thanks for helping.

This project seeks to understand the experiences and support needs of children and families of Australian Defence Force Veteran parent(s) with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

We aim to develop an increased and rich understanding of the mental health needs of the wider population of children with Veteran parents and carers experiencing PTSD in Australia, and particularly how Veteran parents with PTSD and their partners can be assisted to help the children in their care.

By the very nature of their work, Defence Force Personnel can be exposed to situations and events that place them at high risk of PTSD. Coupled with long deployment periods and separation from family and friends, the nature of ADF life can expose its members to unique mental and physical health challenges. Left untreated, PTSD and related issues can transition with ADF personnel once they are discharged.

This research will fall under the umbrella of an existing vSHADE Research Project (see https://vshade.com.au), co-ordinated by Project Lead Researcher and Supervisor of the Scholarship Project, Associate Professor Francis Kay-Lambkin.  The vSHADE project has been funded by Defence Health Foundation to explore Australian ADF Veteran mood and alcohol use problems, and the impact of web-based interventions for this important group.

An outcome of this research will be the development of an eHealth intervention for children of Australian Veterans and their families, to accompany an existing eHealth program for the Veterans themselves (vSHADE).
